Classic slot games have made somewhat of a comeback in recent years, with many plays enjoying the simple layouts and nostalgic feel that they provide when compared to the flashing lights and moving graphics of today’s products. And while some developers have just started to re-introduce these types of games into their catalogues, others have been continuously providing them throughout their time in the online gaming industry. One of those companies is Novomatic, whose game ‘Always Hot’, ticks several of the boxes in the classic slot sector. These types of games may not appeal to everyone, but there is a certain sort of antiquity to the feeling of playing such, providing an altogether different experience as to when playing a contemporary video slot.

Fruity Combos!

As regular classic game players will know, traditional fruit machines would only utilise icons of fruit on their reels, along with one or two other special icons. That being the case, Novomatic have inserted such symbols onto the reels of this game. These exist in the forms of plums, cherries, halved watermelons, oranges, lemons, and grapes. On top of these, there are symbols of 7s and bells, as well as stars, so all the traditional imagery has been incorporated into this one, except for the BAR icon.

The product itself has been created with three reels, as all traditional slot machines used to have, and there’s three rows included as well. Add to this the five separate pay lines, and you’ve got the interface of Always Hot. The lines are fixed at five, so there’s no possibility of reducing these, although players can change the coin value around instead. This amount starts from its minimum of $0.50, and by pressing the ‘Coin’ button, you’re able to increase it to $1 and then $2 as its maximum. An ‘Automatic Start’ button is included to allow you to set the reels off spinning at the same wager level for a number of times.

Anything Special Added?

Such games aren’t particularly known for their inclusion of special features, and unfortunately, Always Hot does exist in such a realm as well. Obviously, the idea of the game is to try and match up three of the same symbol on a winning pay line, with 7s paying out the highest amount, that being 30,000 coins, followed by stars with 20,000.

The only real extra that has been integrated into this product is its gamble feature. This is triggered at the end of every spin which includes a winning combination. When this happens, you’ll see the three rightmost buttons stay illuminated. Two of them say ‘Gamble’, with one having a red stripe along the bottom and the other having a black stripe, while the third one says ‘Take Win’. The third one will obviously allow you to claim your winnings as they are.

If you choose to gamble your winnings, you can press either of the related buttons and you’ll receive the same kind of gambling game. In it, you’re presented with a deck of cards, and here’s where the colours of the buttons come into play. You need to guess whether the next playing card turned over will be red or black, so you need to press the corresponding button in order to make your choice. You can see a selection of cards previously turned over running along the top. Guessing correctly will double your winnings, and if you do so, you have the chance to guess again, and continue guessing. Any incorrect guess will see you lose everything, so play it cautious.

What’s the Verdict?

Always Hot isn’t specifically a bad game, especially in the collection of classic slots that are available to play on the whole, but it will obviously cater only to those players who enjoy the thrill of playing such products. Those people who prefer games billowing over with extra features will probably need to move along and find something else. However, for what is offered here, you’ll find decent enough graphics and gameplay, and the gambling game gives nice opportunities to increase your balance.
